What does this guided tour of the city's old town consist of

In Valencia, Romans, Visigoths, Arabs, and Christians have passed through. They all saw something in a city with its own personality.

Today, more than 2,000 years after its foundation, that unique and authentic personality is reflected in the streets, monuments, stories, and atmosphere of the historic center, which the group will enjoy with an official guide.

Here is the itinerary for the guided tour:

  • The Serranos Towers are a perfect starting point and gateway to the old city. It is one of the best examples of Gothic military architecture in Europe.
  • The Palace of the Valencian Courts is the former residence of the Borja family and the current seat of the Valencian Courts.
  • The Plaza de la Virgen (Virgin Square) is the centerpiece of the old city, where the Forum of Roman Valencia was located.
  • The Basilica of the Virgen de los Desamparados is the sanctuary of the Virgen de los Desamparados. It was built in the 17th century in the Baroque style.
  • The Palace of the Generalitat is a late Gothic building with Renaissance interventions, currently the seat of the Valencian government.
  • The Cathedral of Valencia has a Gothic style with subsequent expansions. Highlights include the altarpiece of the main altar painted by Fernando Yánez de la Almedina, the disciple of Leonardo da Vinci, the Chapel of the Holy Chalice, and that of San Francisco de Borja, with paintings by Goya.
  • The Water Tribunal, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2009, is the oldest justice institution in Europe. They have been meeting every Thursday for 1,000 years on the Gothic facade of the Cathedral.
  • El Miguelete is the bell tower of the Cathedral of Valencia, built in the 14th and 15th centuries with a marked Gothic character. It is a fantastic viewpoint from the city center.
  • The Santa Catalina Tower is considered one of Spanish architecture’s most original Baroque towers.
  • Plaza Redonda, with stalls selling traditional crafts, is always linked to small commerce and has an artistic fountain in the center, from where the drinking water network of Valencia started in the 19th century.
  • The Silk Exchange was built for commercial transactions from Asia. It consists of three parts: the Columnar Hall, the Tower, and the Consulate of the Sea. UNESCO declared it a World Heritage Site in 1996 because it is the most representative work of civil Gothic architecture in Europe.
  • The Central Market is a modernist building from 1914. It is the largest retail market in Europe and one of the main tourist attractions in the city of Valencia.
