Requena’s origins date back to the Iron Age, in the 7th century B.C. Remains of later Iberian and Roman settlements have also been found. Later, the Muslims came, giving the town the name Rakkana (the Strong, the Secure).
With the conquest of Valencia by King James I of Aragon, the city became Christian.
